Maybe I've Been Playing Too Many Horror Games Lately

Fatal Frame 2 on the PS2 was my favorite game of the series. I don't think its right that Fatal Frame 2 got a remake over Fatal Frame 1, especially since the stories are linked how they are. I almost want to say Fatal Frame 2 is only a good game, because Fatal Frame 1 set it up so that you want want to know more about the mystery of the ritual, and getting to play the game where the ritual happens in, is cool because it was only alluded to before. By itself, it probably feels so much more nonsensical, even considering Japanese Horror.

Not to make my blog a game review site. but basically 2 posts in a row will be about the games I had just finished, I do what I want.

Maybe its because I'm fresh off of finishing RE9, and had only a few months ago finished Silent Hill f, both very very good games. Great games. The epitome of their respective series so far. but, I wasn't especially impressed by FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE. Maybe its because I played the original Fatal Frame 2 so much. Maybe its because Capcom's Resident Evil Remakes are just so good. FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE just felt like I was just replaying Fatal Frame 2 again. Yeah I know theres no stuff, new mechanics, new functions, new costumes, and the graphics are hugely improved. But it just felt like I was playing the same game, but this time without the fixed camera angles.

Maybe that could even be considered a good thing, don't change anything that's already great.

Early game felt like a chore, the camera takes so long to kill anything, even with the strongest film, and Late Game, with the camera having enough upgrades felt great, felt like I was rewarded for getting zero shots. I filled the Final Boss of that first run with one shot.

The scares didn't feel scary at all,  because I knew to expect them I guess, but also these upgraded graphics, just have things look a little too clear, and in focus. When ghosts appear, even the ones that are meant to be jump scares, or peripheral scares. They are just too clearly visible, that I didn't think of them as ghosts, but just blue humans. Looking like how the ghosts look in "the Sims" I didn't register that I should have felt scared by it, I just noticed they were blue. However I'll add to this, that playing this game at night was oppressively scary still. just because of the ambience, and the sounds, and the silly stuff like a ball dropping, or a door closing. But seeing the enemies/ghosts, almost felt like reprieve from the horrors of walking around a haunted Japanese village at night.

It's still Fatal Frame 2, so I can't say its a bad game, but I don't feel like it was worth buying, because it's just Fatal Frame 2, and that already exists.

    I dunno, play the game.
